Eldorado Climbing Walls Nominated for Crews That Rock

The contest is hosted by the World of Concrete and recognizes that crews are the backbone of the industry, and through their hard work, are propelling the industry forward by being part of innovative, creative, and dedicated teams.

The 32-foot hand sculpted custom climbing wall (http://www.eldowalls.com/project-portfolio/) at the Morenci Recreation center in Morenci, AZ was built from SHOTRock (http://www.eldowalls.com/our-walls/shotrock/), a concrete-based product that is hand-sculpted to mimic the look of any rock found in nature. The climbing wall design is the centerpiece of the newly constructed recreation center and will bring not only a highly aesthetic piece of art but a fully functional world-class climbing wall to the area. The hand-sculpted tower mimics the local Arizona rock-style not only in coloration but down to the strata, and as a health and fitness tool, the climbing wall provides the community the opportunity to experience the thrill and excitement of rock climbing in a controlled environment.

With Morenci being a very small, isolated mining town, the project presented many obstacles. The construction crew of five men commuted one and a half hours each way every day from the closest hotel to the job site. On top of long commutes in the middle of the Western Arizona dessert, the sourcing and logistics efforts of getting the right materials on site on time proved to be more than challenging. The closest hardware store was over two hours away. “The crew was able to overcome a mid-phase design change, source the proper materials and still meet the scheduled deadline for the project,” notes Jerad Wells, CEO at Eldorado Climbing Walls. He continues, “In all this, the team of highly talented concrete artists was able to overcome all of these challenges to create the fully functional, highly aesthetic, rock realistic, climbing wall that thrilled the architect, general contractor, owner and is sure to inspire the local community for years to come.”
