2013 Dana Point Turkey Trot Donates Nearly $19,000 to Local Charities and Attracts 11,000 Runners

DANA POINT, Calif. - Dec. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- DANA POINT, Calif. – Dec. 4, 2013 – The 2013 Dana Point Turkey Trot, the nation’s sixth largest Thanksgiving Day race, awarded $18,733 to four Orange County charities at this year’s race. Produced by the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Run Racing, the Dana Point Turkey Trot also achieved record-breaking attendance with more than 4,000 spectators and 11,000 runners of all ages participating in the 5k and 10k races, and Kids’ Gobble Wobble.

Prior to the race, the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce selected four local charities as beneficiaries.  Each charity had the opportunity to raise donations through an online donation platform, www.crowdrise.com (http://www.crowdrise.como/). The Chamber awarded $5,000 to the charity that raised the most money on Crowdrise, with additional cash prizes awarded to each participating charity.

·         First Prize - The Dana Point 5^th Marines Regiment raised $6,695, and was awarded an additional $5,000 on race day, for a total of $11,695;

·         Second Prize - Family Assistance Ministries earned $3,494 including a $2,500 prize;

·         Third Prize - The Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley was awarded $1,500 from the Chamber for a total of $2,018;

·         Fourth Prize - Veterans of Foreign War Post 9934 raised $526 and was awarded an additional $1,000.

Avid runners, walkers and joggers of all ages enjoyed a race route along the beaches, cliffs and coves of Dana Point while a DJ and cheerleaders from San Clemente High School provided entertainment along the way. This year’s event also included a two-day Health & Wellness Expo sponsored by Keurig® and a costume contest.
