CHICAGO - Dec. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Advanced Technology Recycling has announced its deployment of the Validator, a new data security appliance created to provide independent verification of any data erasure process. Developed by Haverhill, MA-based DestructData, Inc. the Validator is an independent data verification tool designed to validate through quality control, the results of any hard drive erasure process. The hand-held device was created by DestructData in response to evolving standards issued by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) as well as updates to certification requirements from R2, e-Stewards and NAID. ATR is rolling out the device at all five locations.

Doing the Right Thing
As a leader in the responsible recycling industry, ATR recognized Data Security and media sanitization early on as a key component in electronic asset risk management. According to ATR Founder and COO Ken Ehresman, the partnership with DestructData was first and foremost the result of the company's ongoing commitment to absolute customer comfort with regard to data security.

"We have our roots in Information Technology, so we have always been ahead of the game in terms of securing customer data," says Ehresman. "We were one of the first recyclers to offer R2 certified destruction services with 24/7 access to supporting documentation.

"The Validator allows us to take our commitment one step further by eliminating operator error and minimizing failure points in the media sanitization process. In the final analysis, we added the Validator to our process because our corporate philosophy is to never be satisfied with status quo.

Staying Ahead of the Certification Curve
As pioneers in the end-of-life asset disposal market, DestructData has been a key player in developing products that keep up with the moving target of data privacy regulations. At the same time NIST issued its revision of Special Publication 800-88, the various certification organizations were also adopting stricter provisions for the independent validation of data wiping processing. A key component of these changes was the implementation of a third party quality control auditing tool separate from the erasure software and hardware.

"We have been vigilant since the beginning in terms of monitoring regulatory changes that affect our customers," notes DestructData founder and CEO Michael Lawlor. "The Validator was developed independently of any data erasure software or hardware. It's a true 3rd party auditing tool."
