Toys Will Be Toys at Art Deco Weekend 2014

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Dec. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Ladies, gentlemen and children of all ages, let the games begin! It’s all fun and games at the2014 Art Deco Weekend (http://www.artdecoweekend.com/), January 17–19 on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. Designated “Art Deco at Play,” this year’s message is clear: Bring the kids—and be a kid! The event takes place on Friday, January 17th from noon to 11pm, Saturday, January 18th from 10am to 11pm and Sunday, January 19th from 10am to 8pm. All events will take place on Ocean Drive between 5th and 15th streets in Miami Beach, Fl.

The exhibition hall at the Art Deco Welcome Center, 1001 Ocean Drive, will display antique toys, with a special emphasis on those from the Art Deco ‘20s and ‘30s. There will be vintage board games, dolls, toy cars and planes. A sandbox will display beach toys of yore. And the walls will be covered with oversize toy ads, game boards and paper dolls. To be sure you feel like a kid at Christmas, www.Modernism.com is furnishing a living room circa December 1935, complete with an antique toy train circling a Christmas tree decked with vintage Art Deco ornaments. Check out the toys under the tree.

Once you’re in touch with your inner child, head to the adjacent Welcome Center lecture hall and reminisce at a kid-at-heart film series. Catch stars of the day like Shirley Temple and films like the “Little Rascals,” “The Wizard of Oz” and “Annie.” Don’t forget the Cracker Jack. Everything old is new again.

See all the antiques and antics that fill three days and three nights. Count on the films and fashion, live music and lectures, vendors and visuals, parades and preservation that set this street fair apart from any other. But this year the buzz is on “The Antique Experience,” a stylized garden flanked by 90-by-40-foot tents filled with antique and vintage furniture, objects and clothing. Located under the sea grape trees in Lummus Park between Ocean Drive and the beach, the garden will showcase Art Deco sculptures and outdoor furniture. Live jazz and Big Band music will play and Art-Deco–inspired films —think “Great Gatsby” and “Chicago”—will be shown. The tents will house antiques brought together by esteemed purveyors of the world’s finest and funnest antiques, Modernism.com and The Original Miami Beach Antique Show. Both are longtime associates of ADW, but this year they are partnering in the event. For 300,000 attendees and serious collectors, it’s a match made in heaven.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. MDPL has planned a fun children’s “Playground” filled with live performances, music, the Marlins and much more. The Classic Car Show will make a return to Ocean Drive during ADW. The classic cars will be on parade on Saturday, January 18th at 10am. The street will be lined with antique, art and craft venders on the east side of Ocean Drive and food vender tents provided by the restaurants on Ocean Drive on the other. The annual ADW lecture series will take place at the Wolfsonian-FIU along with some special lecture in the Toy Exhibit and Antique Tents. ADW will host two music stages filled with Miami’s favorite bands and some fine Jazz. The event welcomes back the ADW Fashion Show featuring Bettie Page Clothing.
