FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Dec. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- With the recent topping off of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ new waterfront Huizenga Pavilion in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Stiles/Miller, LLC is on track to complete the Center’s major, multi-phase renovation and expansion in mid-2014.

At the ceremonial topping off, a crew from Stiles/Miller, a joint venture of Stiles and Miller Construction Company, hoisted a palm tree atop the pavilion’s second story, to applause from local arts supporters and Fort Lauderdale and Broward County officials.

The 11,700-square-foot Huizenga Pavilion, which is scheduled for completion early in 2014, has been designed by Wilson Butler Architects to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.  With soaring floor-to-ceiling windows, the structure will feature casual indoor and outdoor dining at the first-floor New River Bistro.  The pavilion’s second level will offer 3,500 square feet of event space with wide-angle riverfront views. Guests will easily stroll  between the theater and the pavilion via the redesigned, terraced Peck Courtyard and Von Allmen Plaza arrival courtyard, or through an air-conditioned, below-ground walkway being created by the performing arts center construction project team.

The Huizenga Pavilion is just steps from Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ two theaters, which were returned to state-of-the-art caliber through the Stiles/Miller’s renovation and expansion program, which began in 2012.  The refurbished, 2,688-seat Au-Rene Theater re-opened for the 2012-13 season with cutting edge, high-tech audio and lighting systems, a new orchestra lift and other advanced production features, fresh seating and carpeting and upgraded roof and high-efficiency climate control systems.  The theater’s distinctive Club Level with stage-view windows is popular with patrons, who mingle and enjoy refreshments as they watch performances from their seats or from the Club Level lounge.

The 18-month renovation and expansion project also includes the new  Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center, which Stiles/Miller will complete in spring 2014.  In addition to Wilson Butler Architects, the project team includes Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.
