The Wallie Awards are given annually at the CHPRMS fall conference to recognize excellence in healthcare and public relations and marketing throughout the states of North and South Carolina. Members compete in more than a dozen categories and a panel of healthcare professionals chooses the winners. The Silver Wallie Award recognized Central Carolina Hospital (CCH) in Sanford, N.C., and a media campaign called “Operation Special Delivery.” Designed to create awareness for CCH’s Labor and Delivery Unit and target military families, the campaign featured four families who shared a special birthing experience using Skype while deployed dads watched from thousands of miles away. "MPI’s PR capability is growing, and it’s a great honor for our team and our clients to receive these awards,” said Sal Conino, agency partner at MPI. “We thank Central Carolina Hospital for allowing us to support their important work, and we are committed to delivering strategic creative design and marketing strategies that assist them in reaching their goals.” Recognizing the uncertainty of the deliveries, with sensitivity to HIPAA regulations, MPI worked with the hospital to video and photograph parts of the deliveries that could be used by the media later. Then, when a reporter came to interview the new mom and the baby, there was material available to take back and package a fuller story. In total, the effort was hugely successful, generating national broadcast stories and print placements with a combined estimated value of over $1 million. “Planning ahead with CCH, we were able to craft and build the story around the hospital’s technology offering. Then, we were lucky enough to have our first birth occur over Mother’s Day weekend. We could not have timed that better,” said Nancy Bono, Agency Partner. “Our Silver Award recognized feature writing that followed the first Skype births through to their one-year birthdays and, return of the military dads.
