Santa Claus in the Digital Age: Video Chat with Santa
By: Video Chat With Santa
Thanks to the technology of video chat, children are now able to chat live with Santa Claus, all from the comfort of their own living room. No more waiting in long lines at the shopping mall just to find out that your child is actually more frightened of Santa then he is of the boogie man.
This new website, Video Chat With Santa, allows children to email Santa their Christmas wish list, view a Live Santa Cam, and talk with Santa Claus live, using any phone for what seems to be a very nominal fee. Santa minutes are pre-bought using a credit card and cost $1.29 per minute. So for a few bucks your child can have a live conversation with Santa, which isn’t bad seeing as most people spend more than that on gas driving to the Mall just to wait in line for hours to see one of Santa’s helpers.
“We realized that in this day and age, many parents are choosing to log in to their laptop to do their Christmas shopping, rather than fighting the crowds at the shopping mall. Therefore it only made sense to have a place online where the children could also visit Santa Claus without leaving their home”, stated Aaron Quick, a representative for the new Santa video chat website, http://www.VideoChatWithSanta.com.
To find out how http://www.VideoChatWithSanta.com worked we decided to buy five minutes with the Jolly old elf himself. After a relatively easy checkout process, we called the toll free number listed on their website and in minutes were connected to a live person.
“Hello, this is Santa”, came a low voice from the other end of the phone. I must say I was a bit timid, once I heard his deep voice. Must be the childhood memories of my visit to the Fairfield Shopping Mall, where my mother handed me off, like an unwanted fruitcake on Christmas Day, to this giant bearded scruffy man dressed in a red suit.
After, I regained my composure, I answered, “Hi Santa, are you real?” It was the only thing that came to mind. “Can you see me, can you hear me?” asked Santa. “Yes”, I responded. “Then I must be real” replied Santa. He makes a good argument, I thought to myself.
Well after several more minutes of thought provoking journalistic questioning, we said our farewells and I again promised Santa that I would in fact remain naughty free for the remainder of the year.
I will say that through the magic of computers, I felt like I had really just had a one on one visit with St. Nicholas himself.
I will say this it was nice to be able to connect with Santa Claus so easily, without putting a big dent in my wallet. If only I could say the same about the visits to my psychologist.
If you have kids, and are like me trying to avoid the shopping madness until that spring day when the groundhog sees his shadow, but would like your kid to have the magical Christmas experience of visiting Santa personally, http://www.VideoChatWithSanta.com may be for you.
