NAPO-NE Announces Inaugural Free One-Day Organizing Conference

Celebrates Get Organized Month with free event on Saturday, January 25, 2014
 
Dec. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- The New England Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO-NE) is hosting a free organizing conference on Saturday, January 25, 2014, in celebration of “Get Organized MonthSM.” NAPO-NE is offering this comprehensive, educational conference to share the organizing resources and expertise of the professional organizing industry.

The public is invited to attend all or part of the day which includes:

- Workshops on a number of organizing topics given by local Professional Organizers (see list below)

- Vendor/expo hall, featuring products and services to help with your organizing needs

- Free document and paper shredding, hard drive destruction, food pantry collection, book donation collection, electronics recycling, and general household good donations

Location: Embassy Suites, Waltham (550 Winter Street, Waltham, MA 02451)

(In the event that the City of Waltham declares a Snow Emergency, the event will be rescheduled to a date to be determined.)

2) What do you mean, “Is my house making me fat”? (Susan Terkanian, AllSET Solutions)

A sense of order and calm in our home and work environment are essential elements for good physical and mental health, and a cluttered environment can impact our weight and stress levels. Is clutter keeping you stuck? Find out and so you can begin 2014 with a new strategy: declutter for the health of it.

3) Organize for Emergencies (Hildy Neumann, Organizing Strategies)

Most people don’t want to think about the worst: natural disasters, health pandemics, acts of terrorism.  But we’ve seen that such events can occur so it’s prudent to plan ahead, especially when the safety of your loved ones depends on it.  In this session we’ll cover the basics of emergency preparedness and share ideas on strategies, considerations and resources.  The goal is to raise your awareness and motivate you to begin putting together the components of your individual plan.

4) Green Organizing – It’s Not Just About Recycling (Sandy Rhee, Organization Guru)

Ask anyone about Green Organizing, and they are likely to tell you to set up a recycling station that is convenient and easy to use. There is so much more to it than that. This session will explain the different aspects of green living and describe steps you can take immediately to be more environmentally conscious at home.

5) Got Photos? (Philip Griffith, PSG Photo Solutions)

Philip Griffith of PSG Photo Solutions specializes in teaching people how to organize a lifetime of family photos. If you have boxes and bags full of family photos that need to be organized, or digital images scattered across computer, phone, and tablet, Philip will teach you how to organize, archive, and enjoy your photos. He will also address what to do with your old home movies, videos, slides and family memorabilia.

6) Organizing Kids: When One Size Doesn’t Fit All (Leslie Huikko, Nicely Done Organizing)

People who live with children know they come with a lot of stuff: toys, sports equipment, clothes, art supplies, collections, school papers and mementos – all of which can accumulate at a staggering rate. By having strong systems in place and helping children develop their own organizing habits, you can re-gain and maintain order in your home while also establishing a sense of calm. This seminar will teach you strategies and tips to do just that.

7) Downsizing for Seniors (Maryann Murphy, MSW, Professional Organizer & Time Management Consultant)

Is it time to start getting rid of some of the things you have accumulated over the years? Whether you are moving to a smaller home or just clearing out some excess stuff, this session will teach you how to create just the right amount of stuff for you to live your senior years happily and without having to clean all those extra rooms!

8) Digging Out from Under Your Paper Piles (Dawn Link, CPO®, Resolutions)

The purpose of this presentation is to assist the audience to feel comfortable with processing papers as they are brought into their lives. The proper tools to deal with the paper will be shown. Creating filing systems or structures to take the fear and dread out of what to do with the papers that enter their life will be demonstrated. Progressing to basic development of the filing system, as well as discussing the three levels of files.
