BARNSTAPLE, U.K. - Dec. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- A South Molton interiors shop which attracted regional attention when it opened at Easter fitted out entirely from recycled products, is moving to bigger premises because the business is growing so fast.  KK Design in King Street started trading at Easter, but has already outgrown its first home.  The shop will be reopening on 4th January in Griffin’s Yard, just a few hundred metres away in South Molton’s busy North Road.

“We have had such a great first six months, and the business is expanding fast, and we basically need more space, urgently!” says owner Kath Kingdon. “Although it’s only been a short time since we opened, we’ve already developed a strong customer base, with people coming into the shop from all over Devon, as well as Somerset, Dorset, London and even France.

“I want to extend the range of products that we stock, and have more space to display all the ‘upcycled’ gift items that I make from recycled fabrics. We’re now supplying many products for domestic and commercial refurbishments, and for clients wanting something that is high quality, creative and individual, that can be made to order. I have been thrilled by the success of the shop, and look forward to being able to expand the service that we offer from our new larger premises.”

Kath’s shop in King Street was fitted out using a range of recycled products, including old scaffolding planks, a scaffolding tower and wooden pallets as display stands.  “I love the contrast between the industrial type materials, and the soft domestic items that I sell.  We will be transferring our existing shop interior to our new premises at Griffin’s Yard, and adding some extra touches too, for example I have some wonderful old cast iron cattle water feeders, which I will be using as part of my new display. I like the idea of bringing old materials back to life, and giving them a role they weren’t necessarily designed for.”

KK Design, which sells a range of interior furnishings, fabrics, haberdashery, as well as gift items, will be based in part of the building owned by Griffin’s Yard wholefoods store. “We will be taking over the area that has been previously used for crafts. There is free parking outside, and a cafe at the other end of the building. There is plenty of space, lots of light, and an upstairs area too where customers can spend time looking at fabric books, and space downstairs to run our popular sewing workshops.  These are tailored to suit clients from all over the surrounding area, and also people on holiday in North Devon.”

Kath’s flair for originality, her hand made packaging, combined with her love for ‘upcycling’ has intrigued and delighted customers. “I have always enjoyed making things, even as a child, and I love the idea that if you use recycled materials, every item you make is individual.  People sometimes admire my displays in the shop, and ask if I’ve been inspired by anyone. The answer is no. It’s just my way of doing things. My style is basically the things I like. I enjoy creating unusual packaging and presenting products in an original way. I am a perfectionist, I like to get the details right.”

In addition to the move to new larger premises, 2014 looks set to be an exciting year for KK Design. Kath also has plans to increase her mail order sales and to develop an online shop.
