Self-published Author Beats the Odds, Lands Top Literary Agent

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Dec. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Only around 4 percent of authors land a literary agent. Just flip through Writers Market and you'll see the rejection rates. But author Caroline Fardig of Southern Indiana beat the odds this month when she landed Ethan Ellenberg of the Ethan Ellenberg Literacy Agency in New York. She used a unique strategy only attempted by a select few. After being rejected by agents, she self-published the first book in her Lizzie Hart Mysteries Series, made it an Amazon bestseller, and then used that success to attract an agent to represent her entire series.

Fardig's debut novel, It's Just a Little Crush, reached #1 on Barnes & Noble and #2 on Amazon in August. Her novel remained in the top 10 of an Amazon bestseller list for a week, so if Amazon did have weekly bestseller lists the book would have been on it. Since then, her book has consistently sold well and appeared on bestseller lists each month since August.

Her working career has been rather eclectic thus far, with occupations including schoolteacher, church organist, insurance agent, funeral parlor associate, and stay-at-home mom.
