Honda Announces New Performance-Friendly Powertrains

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nov. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- It's been a good year for Kansas City Honda Dealers; the Honda brand has received recognition for its retained value, its well-equipped entry-level lineup, and much more. And now they have released a trio of engines to round out their Earth Dreams powertrain lineup as well as a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Turbocharged engines have been on the upswing lately, and it's easy to see why. Not only are they more powerful and offer more torque than their standard four-cylinder counterparts, but they are often just as efficient as well.

Honda has three turbocharged models that they have released information about:

     • 2.0L 4-cylinder with up to 280 hp

     • 1.5L 4-cylinder

     • 1.0 L 3-cylinder

In fact, that 2.0L engine is set to go under the hood of the 2015 Civic R-Type. In Europe. As of yet, there is no set release date or model that any of these engines will go in for the US market, although the 1.6L engine is expected to go into select 2016 models.

The chief engineer for the new 2.0L turbocharger powerplant, Yuji Matsumochi, broke down the philosophy underpinning these new motors: "Other companies have downsized turbos to increase fuel economy. Honda had to make an engine that has better fuel economy and more powerful torque."

There is more coming than just a few new engines, though. Honda has created a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that is predicted to improve fuel efficiency by as much as eight percent, while acceleration performance is expected to improve by nearly 10%.

This is in addition to Honda's plan to put continuously variable transmissions with the majority of their engines in the near future.
