MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - Nov. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- At this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda unveiled the FCEV concept, a new vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. According to rumors, it has been said that the styling of the FCEV hints at the look of the successor to the FCX Clarity. The model is set to launch sometime in 2015.

The FCEV has a design that is ahead of its time, taking cues from Honda’s Exciting H Design. It shares some design elements with the current FCX Clarity such as its coupe-inspired profile.

Because of Honda’s next-generation fuel cell stack, the FCEV concept is able to seat five passengers comfortably. With an increase of 60%, the power density of the fuel stack now reaches 3 kilowatts/liter. The stack size has actually been cut by 33% when compared to what is offered on the FCX Clarity. Along with a lithium-ion battery, the FCEV is able to travel over 300 miles on one fueling of hydrogen.

Honda has been ahead of the pack as far as the development of fuel cell vehicles. They were the first automaker to put a plan of introducing fuel cell vehicles to the public into motion over a decade ago. Customers were able to lease fuel cell vehicles as early as 2005. As of right now, there are around two dozen customers still commuting in the FCX Clarity. It has not been released whether or not Honda will lease their new fuel cell vehicle.

The current FCX Clarity releases zero emissions and even helps to curtail the increase of greenhouse gasses. Vehicles that employ hydrogen fuel cell technology are some of the cleanest available. Only water vapor is released into the air and they only use hydrogen produced at domestic energy sources.
