MILWAUKEE - Nov. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Milwaukee, WI - Bel Canto Chorus (Richard Hynson, Music Director), presents Christmas in the Basilica, December 14 and 15 at the Basilica of St. Josaphat, 2333 S 6th St, Milwaukee, WI. Bel Canto Boy Choirs, Stained Glass Brass, and organist Kevin Bailey will join Bel Canto Chorus in their annual celebration of music of the Christmas season. The concert also features The Christmas Story, a new composition by Bel Canto Music Director Richard Hynson for chorus, boy choirs, brass, tympani, and organ.

“I structured the piece in the oratorio tradition of Bach by starting each section with a single voice recounting part of the story, followed by a movement that expands on it,” said Hynson. “I then ended the section, not with a congregational chorale like Bach, but with a favorite Christmas carol that we could all (audience included) sing together.”

Other selections on the program are John Rutter’s What Sweeter Music and Angel’s Carol, Morten Lauridsen’s O Nata Lux, Frances Williams’ Carillon Carol, and two arrangements by Michelle Hynson; Silent Night, and Still, Still, Still.

Tickets ($27 - $55) are available online at www.belcanto.org or by phone at (414) 481-8801. Senior, student, and group discounts are available.

The 2013 – 2014 Bel Canto Chorus concert season is presented in part with support from the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF); the Bradley Foundation; the Herzfeld Foundation; CAMPAC, the Milwaukee County Arts Board; and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
