Follow on Google News | Tigers come out on top at GHS blood drivesClemson tigers best the University of South Carolina by eight pints in the Georgetown Hospital System fall blood drives.
More donors declared their allegiance to Clemson University over the University of South Carolina in blood drives held Oct. 4 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Oct. 24 at HealthPoint Center for Health & Fitness and Nov. 1 at Waccamaw Community Hospital. The final tally? Clemson fans donated 50 pints of blood, and USC fans gave 42. At each drive, donors were asked to declare their allegiance and were entered into a drawing for Carolina and Clemson tailgate baskets, beach chairs, shoelaces, books and baby hats. The winners were notified Tuesday in time for game day Saturday. “We thought generating a little old-fashioned competition between fans would be a fun and different way to support GHS and the American Red Cross and encourage people to show their team spirit,” Sharon Wine, director of the Waccamaw Community Hospital lab and chair of the GHS Blood Donor Committee, said. GHS teams up with the American Red Cross to hold blood drives throughout the year in Georgetown, Pawleys Island and Murrells Inlet. #### Georgetown Hospital System is a private, not-for-profit organization. The system consists of Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Waccamaw Community Hospital and several facilities throughout Horry and Georgetown counties.
