ROCKVILLE, Md. - Nov. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- ACMG Renews Partnership with 5AM for its NICHD Contract for The Newborn Screening Translational Research Network (NBSTRN) Coordinating Center

5AM Solutions, Inc., a life science technology firm, was recently notified that the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG), as part of its newly awarded five-year Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) contract extension for the NBSTRN Coordinating Center, has selected to continue its partnership with the company.

"We are thrilled to continue our relationship with 5AM Solutions. I am confident that their technical acumen will help advance the capabilities and techniques of the VRDBS and newborn screening, respectively," said Dr. Michael Watson, Executive Director of ACMG.

Under this new contract extension, 5AM Solutions, under the guidance of ACMG, will continue to enhance the existing web-based Virtual Repository for Dried Blood Spots (VRDBS) and the NBSTRN website (www.nbstrn.org). The VRDBS achieves the NBSTRN goal to supply investigators with centralized and de-identified access to dried blood spots (DBS) nationwide, thereby providing the opportunity to easily search for and request specimens, and subsequently acquire the DBS (if approved by the state holding the specimen) from diagnosed positives and general populations.

“We are excited to build upon our efforts with ACMG and NICHD to advance newborn screening research. Bringing stakeholders together, delivering innovation, and using modern technology to create controlled, secure access to the data, the blood spots, and the ecosystem is our contribution. We're thrilled to serve the NBSTRN mission for the years to come", said Erica Marrari, Business Lead, 5AM Solutions.

About NBSTRN

The Newborn Screening Translational Research Network (NBSTRN) is a resource for investigators engaged in newborn screening related research. As part of the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act mandated by Congress, the Hunter Kelly Newborn Screening Program was established, with the NBSTRN Coordinating Center as a key component. The NBSTRN Coordinating Center is funded by a contract to the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goal of the NBSTRN is to facilitate research to improve the health outcomes of newborns with genetic or congenital disorders through an infrastructure that provides the research community access to robust newborn screening resources.
