Nov. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The case of People v. A.L should have never been brought. The client, a mentally handicapped man was accused of damaging the camera of the alleged victim. After an investigation it was revealed that the client was unable to form criminal intent and all of the charges were dropped. " I am happy for the client Mr. Discioarro said. He went on to say that criminal courts around the country are not equipped to deal with the vast amounts of mental illness that walk through their doors on a daily basis. The resources are simply not there.

In some states, the courts have established special mental health judges that handle cases wheren there may be some mental defect. New York has some of those courts up and running, which is a good thing. In prison the biggest challenge is to make sure that mentally ill inmates are taken care of and not abused.
