Cerritos College Cosmetology Honors Alumni in Hall of Fame

Cerritos College Cosmetology department honored their alumni in hall of fame on October 28, 2013.
 
NORWALK, Calif. - Nov. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- The alumni; Jude Alcala, Megan Porschen, Monica Salena, Bryan Griffith, and Richard Ohnmacht were honored for their successes in the industry at the Advisory Committee Meeting.

Jude Alcala is a Hair and Makeup Artist and a Cerritos College Cosmetology program alumni.  He was honored by the Cosmetology department for his success in the television and film industry. In 2013, Jude won an Emmy for “Outstanding Makeup” on the television show “The Talk.” He has worked with celebrities such as, Carmen Electra, Sharon Osbourne, and Justin Timberlake and work has been featured in magazines such as, Vanity Fair, Italian Vogue, and Rolling Stone.

Megan Porschen is an Eco Makeup Artist and a Cerritos College Esthetician program alumni. She was honored by the Cosmetology department for pioneering for eco makeup artistry. Megan has worked as an eco, organic, and cruelty free makeup and skincare specialist for four years. Passion for education and educating others about the dangers of unregulated cosmetic field, Megan is a contributing writer for the company, MindBodyGreen, and an advocate for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.  Her work has been featured in magazines, such as ELLE, 944, and NYLON, she has worked with actors and actresses, celebrity chefs, and musicians, and worked at events, such as The Oscars, The Emmy’s, The Grammy’s.

Monica Salena is a Hair and Makeup Artist and a Cerritos College Cosmetology program alumni.  She was honored by the Cosmetology department for her success in the makeup industry and her commitment for education.  Monica serves on the Cosmetology Advisory Committee and mentors Cosmetology students as a guest lecturer for classes. She has studied under Maurice Stein, owner/founder of Cinema Secrets, and Alan Benfield Bush of Vidal Sassoon. Monica’s work has been featured in television, film, video, and print.

Bryan Griffith owns the salon Properhair located in Costa Mesa, serves on the program advisory committee, and hosts many charity events in his salon for the community. He freely gives advice and educations on the business of opening and owning a salon and retaining clientele.

Richard Ohnmacht is a Hair Color Specialist and Cerritos College Cosmetology alumni. He was honored by the Cosmetology department for his color work and success in the industry. Richard is listed as one of the top ten hair colorists by Los Angeles Magazine and is currently at the Beverly Hills Meche Salon. His celebrity clients include, Heidi Klum, Scarlett Johanson, and Brooke Shields.

“We started the Hall of Fame to recognize our alumni’s talents and accomplishments. They are inspirations to us and our students,” said Cosmetology Instructor, Madeline Bettencourt. “Jude, Megan, Monica, Richard, and Bryan truly demonstrate what can be achieved through education and dedication. We are so proud of them!”

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program’s mission is to prepare students for a career. Cerritos College offers Cosmetology and Esthetician programs.  The Cosmetology program provides students with the skills to cut, color, perm, straighten, and braid hair, manicure, pedicure, and skin care as well as other applications and techniques. Students in the Esthetician program learn how to analyze skin, perform facials, massages, extractions, make-up, and how to treat skin.

The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program consists of 1600 clocked hours, of which 75% is spent performing hands-on applications. The Esthetician Program consists of 600 clocked hours, of which 75% is spent performing hands-on applications. The program also houses a salon which is open to the public and prepares students for their career by providing real life training.
