48hourslogo Design Community Competes To Bring Quick Financial Help To Victims Of Typhon Haiyan

Nov. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- November 15, 2013: The Philippine people are struggling to pick up the pieces of their lives in the wake of one of the most terrible typhoons in recorded history. Statistics from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council report 3,976 deaths, 1,598 people missing, and 18,175 injured. The magnitude of Typhoon Haiyan has been felt world wide, with many countries lending their aid and support. But their not the only ones contributing to the relief.

There is a team of graphic designers working at 48HoursLogo.com, literally from all parts of the world who communicate together primarily online. Some of their own artists were in the path of Typhoon Haiyan, reporting to the rest of the group their fears and concerns. That’s when the website’s founder, Chris, developed a creative way to raise money for relief efforts. For every logo design submitted to a competition on their site in a 48 hour period, $0.15 would be donated to the Philippine Red Cross.

“Every time you submit a design, we are helping victims together. Every upload counts,” said the founder. The forty-eight hour fundraiser culminated in 2,395 logo submissions and $359.25. Combing that with donations collected from the Design Community’s individual prize money, they were able to donate a total of $1,105.88 to the Philippine Red Cross. Their thoughts and prayers continue to be with those affected by the super typhoon.
