Follow on Google News | J&J Staffing Advises Optimizing Social Media To Boost Professional AwarenessJ&J Staffing, a premier staffing resources firm with more than 40 years of leadership in the Delaware Valley, advises professionals seeking employment to maximize social media platforms to achieve career goals. However, J&J Staffing advises caution.
“Social media marketing is not just a growing trend for businesses,” While Malady emphasizes the importance of the traditional resume, the recruiting expert acknowledges there is a growing component of job seekers – chiefly millennials – bolstering their professional portfolio with social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn. “While the requirement for a standard resume remains strong, there is an upsurge in the content job seekers are featuring on their social media pages,” Malady shares. “For executives and professionals savvy at job hunting, the realization that social media messaging must duplicate and support career experience presented in a traditional resume format is a growing trend.” Recently, The Washington Post published an article, “Tips for Using LinkedIn to Find a Job,” that supports Malady’s assertion that social media matters in today’s job quests. According to The Washington Post, LinkedIn, for example, can be used to feature a professional photo and regular professional updates noting expertise and areas of specialty – ideal for viewing by a hiring manager. Sharing regularly and wisely, via social media including LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, was endorsed in the article, which advised job seekers to share updates that include links to timely, professional articles and supportive industry specific content from around the Web. The key word in social media sharing for professional purposes, Malady cautions, is wisely. “Social media can be a great vehicle for touting an individual’s experience, abilities, certifications, education and overall professional accomplishments,” Malady shares the following tips to appropriately maximize social media for job seeking: • Never post inappropriate content on social media platforms. • Avoid posting images on social media platforms that may be offensive. • Update social media regularly with content that demonstrates integrity. • Share your expertise via your social media platforms. • Maximize professional social networking platforms, especially LinkedIn. • Feature social media platforms on your traditional resume, as appropriate. A Harris Interactive online survey of 2,100 hiring and human resources managers recently revealed what employers look for when they check out the social media activity of job applicants, including the types of Facebook pictures and posts that could keep a job seeker from getting hired. According to the survey, two out of five companies go to social networking sites to research job candidates. Why? Managers want to get a glimpse of an applicant's behavior and personality outside of the interview room to see if they would fit into the corporate culture. According to the survey, employers that had taken job candidates out of the running after researching their activity on social media sites reported that a variety of types of disconcerting content could lead them to make such a decision. For instance, 50 percent said that they had eliminated job applicants who had posted provocative or inappropriate photos or information, 48 percent said they were turned off by candidates who posted information about drinking or drug use, and 24 percent said they had rejected applicants after finding information that indicated that a candidate had lied about qualifications. The study was conducted for CareerBuilder. “Anyone that thinks social media is private and won't be considered in job searches, really is fooling themselves. Today’s employers are using all platforms and tools available to them to make the best hiring decisions possible – which includes the review and consideration of social media,” Malady reports. “For job seekers, it is essential to leverage social media responsibly and professionally to get the greatest rewards.” Visit J&J Staffing today at http://www.jjstaff.com or call 856-424-0199.
