By: Phyllis Court Club

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, U.K. - Nov. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, UK – 21 November 2013: The exclusive private member club at Phyllis Court, Henley has applied for planning consent for new health and fitness facilities. The proposed building which overlooks the River Thames, has been designed by Gloucester based Architects Roberts Limbrick Ltd, is intended to expand the range of facilities available to club members and help sustain the club.

The club, which has been at the beautiful riverside site, next to the finish line of the world famous Henley Regatta for over a hundred years, currently provides a wide range of different sporting and non-sporting activities but lacks good quality health and fitness facilities. The new building will provide multi purpose activity studios, a fitness gym, a swimming pool and changing facilities to serve both new and existing sports facilities.

Phyllis Court Club Secretary Graham Owen said, “The new building is important to the future of the club by widening the range of facilities we can offer, to appeal to both existing and future members. Securing planning permission will be an important first step to deliver sustainable new facilities and I hope the application will be well supported by our members and the wider public.”

Roberts Limbrick Ltd. Director Peter Newth said, “We have been very aware of the sensitivity of the location and the building has been carefully designed to fit in with and compliment the surroundings, combining the use of timber, light coloured render and glazing to provide an attractive façade. We have consulted with the planners and they have been very helpful throughout the development of the scheme. The facilities will be highly sustainable and are designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’. The roof over the main entrance will include a flowering grass mixture and photovoltaic panels are concealed on the main roof”.

The Planning Application is due to be determined by 12/02/14 and can be viewed online at the South Oxfordshire District Council website.
