Girl Power Is Back: Empowerment Project Trailer Debuts

Unique documentary spotlights inspirational, positive and powerful women leaders across a variety of lifestyles

SEATTLE - Nov. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- November 19, 2013: While mainstream Hollywood stays focused on guns and violence, a new film slated to open in the spring is taking a more aspirational approach. IndieFlix presents: "The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things,” is a unique documentary that spotlights inspirational, positive and powerful women leaders across a variety of lifestyles. “The Empowerment Project” trailer debuts today and starts a journey toward connecting people through this film, created for women by women. The film’s mission is to encourage, empower and inspire the next generation of women.

“The Empowerment Project has a positive and powerful message, but it’s also a great film,” says director Sarah Moshman, of Heartfelt Productions. “We started the project at the grassroots and we’ve achieved our vision of bringing America’s most inspiring women to the screen at a time when we need those stories to be told.”

The project is a co-production of IndieFlix , and Heartfelt Productions’ Emmy ® award winning producers, Moshman and Dana Michelle Cook. It started as a dream that quickly became reality thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign in Spring 2013. Over the course of 60 days, the women raised over $28,000, and attracted team IndieFlix as co-producers. It also attracted the attention of San Francisco-based, feature film producer, Lynn Webb as an advisor and executive producer and “The Empowerment Project” was on.

In September 2013, with their all-female film crew in tow, Moshman and Cook embarked on 7,000-mile cross-country road trip in just 30 days, to interview 17 inspiring women from a variety of career fields. They gained candid insight on how these women define their success, what it takes to be a woman in their position, and valuable advice on how to improve the female role in the workplace. In celebration of the all-female focus in front of and behind the camera, the filmmakers turned the cameras on themselves, capturing their transformational journey. Additionally, in each of the 10 cities they filmed in, the crew mentored an aspiring female filmmaker on set, promoting positive role models within their industry.

“The Empowerment Project” was also co-produced by IndieFlix, the leading global streaming platform for independent films. IndieFlix helped bring the project to life through its “Distribution Lab” initiative, which is a development incubator started by IndieFlix founder and CEO Scilla Andreen. The Distribution Lab also played an active role in “Living On One Dollar,” the documentary that chronicles the efforts of four young friends who set out to live on just one dollar a day for eight weeks in rural Guatemala. It has been among the most popular documentaries on iTunes in 2013, peaking at #1 in the category.

“This is the kind of project that IndieFlix was created to support and distribute,” says Andreen. “’The Empowerment Project’ is going to surprise the film business and entertain millions of people.”

Female leaders featured in this documentary were selected not only for their achievements but also to serve as representatives of diverse interests and careers, including:

Jill Soloway: 2013 Sundance Best Director
Jane Lynch: Golden Globe and Emmy â award-winning actress, GLEE
