Losing My Amazing Grandmothers

Nov. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- My dad’s mom passed away when I was 15. I have such fond memories of spending holidays at her house with my family. She was the most amazing cook. Her matzo balls were perfectly round with no fingerprints in them at all. She would always bring my sister and me Easter candy during Passover every year. Her preferred name for me was “sweetheart”, and I miss her. She died too soon, and I feel as though I missed out on a lot of time with her. http://thegoodnewsis.com/Category/losing-your-grandmother

I remember the day she died. I had just gotten home from school; my mom walked in the door, and she was crying. I asked her what was wrong, and she told me that my grandma had just passed away. I was in a state of shock. I didn’t know how to react, as she was the first person close to me to ever die. I miss her terribly.

My other grandmother, my mom’s mother, got to see me get married and died just before I got pregnant with my daughter. She lived close to me when I was younger, and I spent a lot of time with her and my mom. http://thegoodnewsis.com/contents/How-It-Works

When I got married, she lived close by, and we would go to my parent’s for dinner. She loved to play cards and would always get a kick out of the fact that I was never paying attention -- so I never knew it was my turn. Instead of getting annoyed, she would laugh at me. We had some great times together. She also taught me how to crochet and knit. She used to knit us hats, gloves and scarfs, and we wore them with pride. She had so much patience as she taught me to knit and crochet. I cherished the time we spent together.

She was also a wonderful cook and always made everything from scratch. Her apple cake was like no other. She always had ice cream in the freezer for her grandchildren.

I had the opportunity to say goodbye to her. I did not have that opportunity with my other grandmother as she passed away suddenly. Before she died, she asked me when I was having children. My husband and I were actually trying at that time. I should have told her that, but I didn’t. One week after she died, I found out that I was pregnant. I wish she could have lived to see my amazing children. She would have gotten so much happiness from them.

I am a lucky girl to have enjoyed not one, but two, amazing grandmothers. I only wish that they could have lived long enough to see my children.
