Follow on Google News | Over 7,000 Show Support for Blood Cancers, Raising over $718,000Walking to End Cancer with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Tri-State Chapter
By: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Tri-State/Southern Ohio residents showed their support and dedication to the cause by coming out and walking in one of three local Light The Night® Walks this fall. Teams of co-workers, families and friends came out to help build awareness about the more than one million people in the United States living with a blood cancer and the many thousands more who have lost the battle. The Tri-State Chapter hosts three Walks for local supporters. This year’s Walks were held on Thursday, September 27 at Mason Municipal Center, on Thursday, October 3 at the Fraze Pavilion in Kettering and on Thursday, October 10 at Sawyer Point Park. Over 7,000 people walked with us this year, raising over $718,000 for the Tri-State Chapter! Light The Night Walks, which raise funds for critical research and patient education and support, are a celebration, complete with music, refreshments and family activities. Participants walked together in twilight holding illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold to remember those who have lost their battle with cancer. “Light The Night Walk gives hope to patients and their families and lets them know they are not alone in their battle against cancer,” said Michelle Steed, Executive Director of the Tri-State Chapter. “It’s a night to pay tribute to lives touched by cancer, honor those we’ve lost and celebrate the lives that have been saved. And the money raised supports critical research and patient education and services.” For additional information on programs or services provided by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, contact the Tri-State Chapter at 513-698-2828 or visit us online at www.lls.org/ About The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ® (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer.
