Pricing Set For the Remainder of Volkswagen Passat 1.8T Models

The base MSRP for the new Passat 1.8T S will be $20,895 when outfitted with the standard five-speed manual transmission.
The Passat 1.8T Wolfsburg Edition will have a starting MSRP of $23,965 with a standard six-speed automatic transmission.
The Passat 1.8T SE base price is $24,475 when equipped with the standard five-speed manual transmission.

Designed to be lightweight and fuel-efficient without compromising turbocharged performance, the new 1.8L TSI engine has been built with a wide range of refinements. These include a new thinwall cylinder block, an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head, and special attention paid to the reduction of friction throughout the powertrain.

Maximum output for the new 1.8T engine is 170 hp, which matches the current horsepower offered by the current 2.5L five-cylinder engine, but delivers it at 700 less revolutions-per-minute. Peak torque for the 1.8T comes in at 184 lb-ft, which is 7 more lb-ft than the 2.5L engine and is produced at just 1500 rpm. This kind of low-end torque provides a strong, flat curve and a 0-60 mph time of 7.5 seconds. Coupled with standard electric power steering for all 2014 Volkswagen Passat 1.8T models over the current hydraulic steering method, these vehicles are sure to deliver an even tighter, more responsive ride.

Fuel economy numbers are also improved over the 2.5L Passat models. A Volkswagen Passat 1.8T equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission will get an estimated 34 mpg on the highway, up from the 31 mpg highway rating of the 2.5L engine.
