Flutist Peter H. Bloom Continues Southeast Concert Tour
BOSTON - Nov. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- D’Anna Fortunato, mezzo-soprano; Peter H. Bloom, multiple flutes; and Mary Jane Rupert, piano will perform music by Handel, Ravel, Schubert, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Amy Beach, Marion Bauer and Elizabeth Vercoe at Campbell University (Buies Creek, NC) on November 18 at 8:00 pm; at Wesleyan College (Macon, GA) on November 21 at 7:30 pm; and at Brevard College (Brevard, NC) on November 22 at 7:30 pm.  The musicians will also give master classes and workshops, including sessions on improvisation led by Mr. Bloom at Stratford Academy in Macon (November 20) and Brevard College on November 23.  Prior events included concerts and classes at Furman University (Greenville, SC); Shorter University (Rome, GA) and the Weymouth Center for Arts and Humanities (Southern Pines, NC).  The concert at the Weymouth Center featured the Southeastern premiere of Richard Nelson’s Play of Light, written for Bloom and Rupert (concert flute, bass flute, piccolo and harp).   For information on all events, call Americas Musicworks at 1-888-887-7169.

An admired favorite on the international concert stage, D’Anna Fortunato (mezzo-soprano) has appeared as a soloist with Kurt Mazur and the New York Philharmonic, with Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and with other top American orchestras (Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Cleveland, Dallas, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, others).  She has performed major operatic roles with leading companies including Glimmerglass, Kentucky Opera, Opera San Jose, and Boston Lyric Opera.   Among her many repeat festival appearances are Vaison-la-Romaine, Berlin’s Spectrum Concerts, the Rome Bach Festival, Marlboro, Casals, Tanglewood, Blossom, and Newport.  She has recorded 40 CDs for labels including Harmonia Mundi, London/Decca, Sony Classical, and others.  A regional Met Winner, she serves on the faculty of the New England Conservatory College Division.  In 2006, Ms. Fortunato was a Grammy nominee in three categories including best classical vocal recording.

Peter H. Bloom (flute), whose playing has been called “a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength” (The Boston Globe), tours North America, Europe and Asia, and appears on 35 CDs from labels including SONY Classical, Dorian, Newport Classic, and Leo Records.  Winner of the American Musicological Society’s Noah Greenberg Award, he performs with leading classical ensembles including Ensemble Chaconne and the Olmsted Ensemble, and is also a noted jazz artist, celebrating his 35th season as flutist/saxophonist with the renowned Aardvark Jazz Orchestra. Bloom serves as historical woodwind consultant for the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; provides musical direction for museum exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad; and has given lectures, workshops and master classes worldwide on such diverse topics as historical performance, new music, and improvisation. He is a board member of the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition and contributing editor for Noteworthy Sheet Music.

Mary Jane Rupert (piano), praised by the New York Times as exhibiting “indeed real sensitivity,” has performed throughout the world from Carnegie Recital Hall to the Beijing Concert Hall.  She has appeared as concert pianist and harpist with symphony orchestras and chamber music groups across the United States.  Her arrangement of the Nutcracker Suite for Flute and Harp and Flute and Piano is published by Noteworthy Sheet Music.  Bloom and Rupert have concertized internationally for more than 20 years as the duo “2”, with recent tours in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and the United States.  “2” is featured on the title track of a new CD from Navona Records,Kleemation and Other Works by Elizabeth Vercoe (“outstanding in every respect, an artistic masterwork” – Dr. Laura G.
