‘Russia is a Prime Market for UK Businesses in The International Major Events Market’ says MEI

Nov. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Russia should be a major focus for UK businesses looking to get involved in international sports events, according to Dennis Mills, founder of leading global business specialists Major Events International (MEI).

Russia are set to stage the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and the 2018 FIFA World Cup and MEI is staging a seminar in north London on Tuesday November 19, which will highlight the opportunities for UK companies, regardless of sector or size, looking to break into or establish themselves in the sports event industry.

Speaking ahead of the event, MEI founder Dennis Mills said: “We have seen recently how ambitious Russia is to host major sports events such as the IAAF World Athletic Championships, Rugby World Cup Sevens and Summer Universiade and they have the Confederations Cup in 2017 and the FINA World Cup in 2018.

“The standing of British companies in the sports industry around the world could not be higher and MEI is looking to work with British businesses looking to capitalise on the attention that London 2012 has provided.”

Fellow speaker and Sagacity Director Jon Coxeter-Smith added: “With more than more than 20 major sporting events including multi-sport games and world championships already in the portfolio for the period 2011-20, Russia is undoubtedly enjoying a golden decade of sport.

“The roots can be traced back to 1999 and the manifesto of President Vladimir Putin, as he sought to build support for his succession of Boris Yeltsin in 2000, having been Acting President, since the latter’s sudden resignation the previous year. We have seen Russia steadily rising to its top three position in the last edition of Sportcal’s Global Sports Nations Index; analysts expect to see further movement in the next edition.”

The MEI seminar will be run at the Russian Trade Delegation in Highgate and will feature speakers from the Russia House as well as other companies who have already worked in Russia. MORE
