A&D’s Novel IP67 Compact Bench Scales Promise Maximum Efficiency In Both Sanitation And Weighing

How to always keep scales clean and hygienic – with no hard work

Dirty debris…foul odor…bacteria… Even to the slightest degree, it is disturbing to imagine these things affecting the equipment where sanitation is people’s primary concern, such as kitchens, meat/fish shops, food factories, etc. It is therefore essential that the weighing instruments used in these places are easy to keep clean and hygienic, besides providing weighing performance and functionality necessary to carry out the given tasks. The SJ-WP series are ideal scales in this regard, owing specifically to the following features:

1) Externally mounted waterproof load cell (weight sensor)

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the SJ-WP series is that, unlike other scales in the same category, its load cell sits on the top of its housing. Normally, when the device is completely sealed for waterproofing, and if the load cell is placed inside, the weighing speed and stability will inevitably be compromised due to up and down movement of the load cell, which changes the internal air pressure. There is however no such worry when the load cell is outside the enclosure.

Thanks to this unique construction, the SJ-WP series can stabilize in as quickly as 0.5 seconds (albeit subject to the weighing environment, display resolution and response characteristic setting) while achieving a waterproof level of as high as IP67 (immersible to a depth of 1 meter for at least 30 minutes).

Meanwhile, the load cell, made of aluminum, is treated with alumite and silicons to be waterproof and anti-corrosive. A&D’s in-house tests show that it can withstand 300 hours of salt spraying.

2) Stainless steel (SUS304) weighing pan on a quickly removable pan support

The surface of the weighing pan is resistant to scratches and wear, and is easy to keep disinfected. The pan support, placed immediately above the load cell, can be removed quickly to wash either the scale or itself.

3) Transparent panels around the load cell

The pan support has overhanging panels on each of its four sides, which shield the load cell from debris to keep it clean as well as away from drafts to ensure stable weighing. Since they are transparent, the degree of contamination inside is always visible.

4) Integrated overload protection mechanism (patent pending)

The load cell incorporates a stopper and requires no external components for overload protection. The area around the load cell is therefore unobstructed and easy to keep free from debris.

All these structural ingenuities firstly make the scales easy to wash down using water from a hose, or if users prefer, they can simply toss the scales in water, perhaps mixed with ph-neutral detergent, for more complete sanitation.

Advanced check weighing capability

Check weighing is realized through comparator mode, which visually indicates whether the weight on the scale is below, within or above the target range – highly useful for repetitive filling, sorting, packing, etc. The SJ-WP series is equipped with bright, multi-colored 5-step LED comparator lights, and enables comparisons in three levels (Low / OK / High), five levels (Low Low / Low / OK / High / High High), or even seven levels for grading application, with no light indicating either end of the continuum.

To make the work pace even faster, the SJ-WP series can perform tare automatically when the weight reaches the set target range, saving the user from the hassle of pressing the TARE key each time for consecutive measurements. Since the comparator also functions in negative values, this makes it possible to perform “take-away” check weighing; that is, repeatedly measuring out the target quantity by taking the content out of its container without pressing the TARE key each time.

In conjunction with the high-speed stabilization of the scale, the above functions dramatically increase efficiency and productivity.

Extremely long battery life and other notable features

With six D alkaline batteries, the SJ-WP series can operate continuously for 5,000 hours (with LED and backlight off). Put differently, based on regular use of 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, a single set of batteries will last approximately 2.5 years.

Further, the auto power OFF function turns the scale off automatically to save the batteries when it is inactive for a set period (5 to 60 minutes) of time. The scale also displays the remaining battery level so that the user can prevent the batteries running out unexpectedly while in use.

Other features of the SJ-WP series include the large LCD display (26 mm character height) with clear white backlight; four selectable weighing resolutions between 1/3,000 and 1/30,000; touch sensitive, capacitive keys covered with hard plastic, which prevents surface rupture and thereby ensures permanent waterproofing; multiple weighing units of gram, kilo gram, pound, ounce, troy ounce, pound-ounce, tael (Singapore/HK jewelry/Taiwan), tola and Newton; counting function to calculate and display the number of pieces based on their individual unit weight; and adjustable response characteristics depending on the degree of vibration and draft at the location.

There are four models available in the SJ-WP series: SJ-3000WP (3 kg × 0.1 / 0.2 / 0.5 / 1 g), SJ-6000WP (6 kg × 0.2 / 0.5 / 1 / 2 g), SJ-15KWP (15 kg × 0.5 / 1 / 2 / 5 g), and SJ-30KWP (30 kg × 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 g). The weighing pan size is 232 (W) × 192 (D) mm.
