READING, Pa. - Nov. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Blue Marsh Lake PA – The second annual Polar Plunge sponsored by the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club will take place on December 14 at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area of Blue Marsh Lake. This year’s plunge is to raise funds for Opportunity House 2nd Street Learning Center in Reading. Organizer for the event, Rotarian Rick Herbert shared that they anticipate more than 100 people braving the cold waters. Last year’s Polar Plunge raised $13,000 for Hurricane Sandy victims. With the funds staying in our community, the goal is to raise more money for the second annual Polar Plunge.

Opportunity House provides a wide array of services to homeless, formerly homeless and low-income families and individuals with the ultimate goal of self-sufficiency. In addition to services to meet basic needs of the homeless, services are provided to help individuals become and remain independent, responsible members of our community.  Community services available to both homeless and low-income families and individuals include: 24 hour a day, 7 day a week childcare services through the Second Street Learning Center for children age 6 weeks through 12 years which will be the focus for this year’s Polar Plunge.

We are honored to support them with the proceeds from this year’s West Reading/Wyomissing Rotary Polar Plunge. Is there any better way to support our local community than giving to a program that supports families and their children?”

Lorri Oziri, Vice President of Development for Opportunity House shared, “We are thrilled to benefit from this year’s Polar Plunge and want to say thank you to an amazing group of people”. “Regardless of the water temperature, the West Reading/Wyomissing Rotary Club is bringing warmth to all of our families and kids who will benefit, and their effort will help to provide safe, affordable childcare to more kids at the Second Street Learning Center.”
