Follow on Google News | Operation Christmas Child is a Great Reason to Start Christmas Shopping Early this YearThe national goal is to collect 10 million gifts by mid-November to be distributed to homeless children around the world
By: HUMC For more than 7 years volunteers at Highland United Methodist Church have operated a distribution center for Operation Christmas Child (http://jesusiscomingsoon.net/) While looking forward to celebrating the birth of our savior Highland United Methodist Church is offering an opportunity to provide a simple gift to bring great joy to a homeless child. Pack a standard size shoe box or plastic container with school supplies, art supplies, small toys, t-shirts, socks, personal care items like brush & comb, toothpaste, toothbrush, and label the box for Boy or Girl, and indicate the appropriate age range of the child to receive the gift. The shoe boxes will be delivered to homeless children around the world. Operation Christmas Child is just one of the projects by Samaritan’s Purse. More than 10 million shoe box gifts were collected last year, thanks to the generosity of people like those at HUMC. These gifts are distributed to homeless children worldwide to share the love of Jesus and the joy of Christmas with children who are hurting. There are several ways to partner with this organization by donating a shoe box, making a cash donation online or joining over 100,000 dedicated volunteers. Operation Christmas Child needs people to help inspect and prepare shoe box gifts at the processing center. Millions of lives will be touched by the gifts which are carefully inspected and prepared shipping overseas. Operation Christmas Child Kick off Sunday takes place in the HUMC Family Life Center on November 18, 2012. This special service of worship and celebration, with music, drama, puppets and shoe box testimonies will be the beginning of a project with a goal to help southeast Michigan collect 60,000 shoe boxes for homeless children. The public is invited to join this effort by dropping off a shoe box gift during collection week from November 18 - 25. HUMC has been involved with Operation Christmas Child for over 7 years. Education Director, Sue Cole said, “I pray people will take this opportunity to donate and help the gospel make a difference in the lives of kids.” Visit the HUMC http://www.myhumc.com site, and click the Operation Christmas Child logo for collection hours and location with detailed instructions for packing a shoe box.
