Rabbi Shlomo Braun of Aleh Foundation addresses Rabbinical Alliance of America Kislev Conference

 
NEW YORK - Nov. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- The Rosh Chodesh Kislev Conference of the Igud Horabbonim – Rabbinical Alliance of America, was held on Sunday, first day of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, November 3rd, 2013, in theChaim Albert Synagogue of the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, 585 Schenectady Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Rabbi Michoel Chazan serves there as Chaplain. Graced with the presence of Rabbi Shmaryahu Shulman, Igud Honorary President and author of Merish Bebirah, Rabbi Yehoshua Yonason Lustig, Conference Chairman, opened the Session with the recital of Tehillim 130. Rabbi Gershon Tannenbaum, Igud Director, introduced Rabbi Tzvi Mandel, Rav of B’nei Israel of Flatbush, who has been designated to respond to the proposed outreach effort of the Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy of the Rabbinical Alliance. Initially, 179 nursing homes in the New York tri-state metropolitan area will be contacted in order to provide religious services to Jewish patients.

Rabbi Chanania Elbaz, Rav of Congreation Achi-Ezer and Igud Presidium Member, delivered a personal and an emotional remembrance of towering Rabbi Ovadia Yossef, zt”l (1920-2013), Rishon Letziyon and Chief Rabbi of Israel. Rabbi Shmaryahu Shulman noted that ordinarily no eulogies are to be delivered on Rosh Chodesh, however, eulogies that serve as Halachic reviews are permitted. Rabbi Tannenbaum cited the Gemara at Kesubos 17a directing that on the passing of a Torah scholar, the funeral should have at least 600,000 participants. In the case of a Torah leader, however, no minimum exists.

Rabbi Michoel Chazan discussed a gathering of hospital chaplains of all faiths that he hosted at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. Some wondered aloud of the necessity on including all religions. Rabbi Chazan stressed its importance in that a Chaplain called the very next day to report that a Jewish patient at the Catholic nursing home where he served had died and that instructions on handling and providing Jewish funeral services were requested. Rabbi Chazan underlined that the importance of the Commission’s outreach is inestimable. Several discussion followed regarding resolutions to be articulated relating to positions that the Igud is in the midst of preparing for public release.
