Nov. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- City of London Guild of Public Relations Practitioners achieves “Company” status

12 November 2013, London: Public relations has joined the ranks of ancient and modern professions recognised by the City of London. The Guild of Public Relations Practitioners (http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=49807364&msgid=360132&act=1ET5&c=783105&destination=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.prguild.org), founded in 2000, has been granted the status of a "Company without Livery" by The Court of Aldermen of the City of London.

"The Guild creates a focal point for senior professionals that is distinct and therefore complementary to our national industry and professional bodies," said Master, Jonathan Chandler. "We have now established a unique and highly valuable role for PR and public affairs professionals to play within the City and nationally. We have specific goals to advance the contribution our profession makes to society at large, which includes our commitment to supporting charities which have a communication context and stimulating the growth of social enterprise in our sector,” he added.

The petition was presented by the Sponsoring Alderman Roger Gifford (the Lord Mayor of London in 2012/2013), the Master and Wardens of the Guild.

“Our continued growth is good news for the profession and good news for society.  We welcome members who are experienced, forward-looking professionals, committed to making a difference, “said Chandler.

The Guild was required to meet targets for its charitable Trust, membership and governance to achieve this important milestone. It will now pursue the goal of becoming a "Worshipful Company" which will enable it to play an even greater role in the City and fulfil the commitment made by all Livery companies to charitable endeavour, education and fellowship.

Marketers, international bankers, information technologists, management consultants and many others have already established thriving modern Livery Companies which are highly valued for their counsel and contribution to the City and have earned a respected role within their professions.

The Guild will continue to work closely with the PRCA, the CIPR and other bodies to ensure that it plays a meaningful and unique role in the development of the profession. The Company will continue to be known externally as the Guild of Public Relations Practitioners or PR Guild.

The Guild partners with the Media Trust to offer training and development opportunities, coaches and mentors academic students of PR, provides strategic advice to the Livery Schools Link and enjoys highly valued affiliations with the Army Reserve’s Media Operations Group (MOG), the Royal Naval Reserve’s Media Operations Specialism (MOS) and 7644 Squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
