“It Takes Courage” is a true community partnership between like-minded agencies working together to help families affected by domestic abuse,” said Carol Wick, Chief Executive Officer of Harbor House. “In just a few hours, we can make a difference in the lives of individuals who are suffering from abuse but don’t know where to turn. We’re out there to say, we’re here to help.” During “It Takes Courage,” teams of volunteers are dispatched to neighborhoods throughout Orlando to distribute door-hangers with information about Harbor House, including its 24-hour emergency hotline. Following last year’s door-hanging event, 38 families sought emergency shelter at Harbor House. “Within days of our It Takes Courage events, calls to our crisis hotline skyrocket and dozens of families take the brave step to flee their abusive homes,” said Wick. “It is truly remarkable how effective the event is in not only raising awareness for individuals in abusive relationships, but also in helping families, friends and neighbors learn what they can do to help someone in need.” This year’s event goal is to distribute 20,000 door hangers and will be the largest effort to date. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Teams will meet at the Orlando Fashion Square Mall located at 3201 E Colonial Drive between Panera and Planet Fitness and will begin heading out into the community by 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed now! Individuals, teams and corporate groups can register online (http://ittakescourage.kintera.org/ End
