PHOENIX - Nov. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- With the holiday season approaching, and a time of sharing upon us, new Showcase Honda General Manager and Marine Veteran, David Green is at the forefront of launching his new, yearly event - The First Annual Showcase the Veterans 5K Run. This Saturday, November 9th, will be the first community-based, fundraising event not for the dealership, but rather for the local chapter of a national organization, Team RWB.
Team RWB is an organization dedicated to helping veterans transition into a civilian lifestyle, and prides itself on building interaction between veterans, their families and the community through physical and social engagements. As a Marine veteran himself, Green decided that RWB would be the best choice to partner with, and raise some funds during an event. Green explained, “We’ve witnessed first-hand on how important the impact RWB has made on returning vets and their familes - and this is the organization that can guarantee that all funds raised during a local event - stays right here, in our community.” Green also wanted the event to be entertaining and new, and not appear as just “another race.” “The Showcase the Veterans 5K, well, it’s a Run! We want it to be fun as well, so we’re also offering opportunities for civilians to run in military “Cadence” groups if they want to experience a new way to run military style, as well.”
Held along the north shore of Tempe Town Lake, the 5K run will be timed using disposable chips embedded on the back of each race number. Following the event, awards will be given out to the top three males and females in nine different age groups. Those interested in participating in the Showcase the Veterans 5K can sign up online for $30 prior to midnight on Oct. 13. A $35 entry fee will then be in place until 6 pm on Nov. 8, or participants can choose to pay $40 on the day of the race. On Friday, Nov. 8, packet pick up and late registration will be open from 4 to 8 pm at Showcase Honda. The race commences that following Saturday and begins at 10 am. Parking will be available for participants and attendees at Tempe Town Lake Marina and on Lake View Drive.
