Follow on Google News | Illminster man treks to Vietnam for St Margaret's HospiceBy: St Margaret's Hospice Geoff first took on the challenge of an overseas trek this April after his experience with the Hospice. “I was lucky to go on Mountains and Mandalas Trek earlier this year in memory of my wife Denise who died from breast cancer in the Hospice in November 2012. While Denise was in the hospice it struck me that they employ angels in nurses’ uniforms. We only ever saw smiles and I felt that it was such a wonderful place that I want to do what I can to help raise money. “When I heard the Hospice was organising a trip to Vietnam I just had to go! India was my first trip abroad; I had never even been on an aeroplane before. I now have the travel bug and will proudly raise further funds for the Hospice.” The Vietnam Hill Tribe Trek combines walking with spending time at a project near Hanoi which provides shelter and care for older people who have been abandoned by their families or have no relatives to take care of them. The project also cares for children who have a life-threatening illness and for disabled children who have been affected by Agent Orange, a chemical used in the Vietnam War. Brooke Brownlow, Events Fundraiser said: We are very excited to be organising a trek to Vietnam, this will be a trek with a difference as the trekkers will be able to enjoy the unique experience of working alongside a local project in Hanoi. We have a group of very keen trekkers, like Geoff, already signed up for the adventure but there are a few places left, albeit limited, so if you have a sense of adventure get in touch with tSt Margaret’s fundraising team today!” To learn more about The Vietnam Hill Tribe Trek 4th -14th October 2014 contact 0845 345 9671 or email fundraising@ End
