Catholic Charities of West Tennessee distributes food to needy in Hickory Hill - THURSDAY

Catholic Charities of West Tennessee partners with Mid-South Food Bank and local Veteran’s in large scale, pre-Veterans Day food distribution event.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Nov. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Catholic Charities of West Tennessee (CCWTN) and the Mid-South Food Bank (MSFB) today join forces in the Hickory Hill community of southeast Memphis to distribute food to over 230 families (over 1,000 individuals). Joining in the effort are Veterans of the United States Armed Forces in what is deemed a “pre-Veterans Day” event.

“With the recent launch of our St. Sebastian Veterans Services program we looked for an opportunity to give back into the community with Veterans with whom we interact” said Mike Allen; President and CEO of Catholic Charities of West Tennessee. “Some of the Veterans who will assist us today are clients of our agency, while others are volunteers and supporters of our programs,” said Allen.

A distribution to over 230 families is significantly larger than what CCWTN can typically handle alone. Today’s distribution is being done in partnership with the Mid-South Food Bank. CCWTN and MSFB have an active, growing partnership and this is the first of what both agencies hope will be multiple, large scale efforts to take place in the coming months.  “The food resources of the Mid-South Food Bank when combined with the pre-screening capabilities of its partner agencies, the in-neighborhood facilities of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis and the volunteer base of Catholic Charities of West Tennessee makes for a force multiplier that neither agency could handle alone,” said Allen.
