The Duet, a Quartet from Italy, Believes in Teaching Music

By: Dean Kropp

NEW YORK - Nov. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Two respected music teachers and musicians from the Liguria region in Italy bring both their music and their interest in music education to New York City. "The Duet,” a group guided by Alberto Bellavia (piano) and Roberto Rebufello (sax), with Simone Monnanni on bass, and Lorenzo Arese on drums, will play experimental, contemporary, and classical jazz and classical music on February 14, 2014 from the stage of Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, 154 West 57th Street, New York.

Says Bellavia, “The study of music can give a huge benefit for the development of the mind of any child, not to mention those who have a learning-related disorder such as dyscalculia, cognitive delays, and dysgraphia.” Dyscalculia is difficulty in learning or comprehending arithmetic. Dysgraphia is associated with impaired handwriting, remembering written words, and processing the letters in those words. “Music is essential and indispensable for life and, without music teaching, future generations will face many problems.”

The concert, starting at 8 p.m., also includes talented pianist and teacher Lisa Kropp. The concert is produced by Dean Kropp, author of the new book, The Tortured Chef (http://wheatmark.com).

The performance has three parts. The first is a collection of original tunes composed by Bellavia and Rebufello. The second, which features Lisa Kropp, is The Duet’s interpretation of “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. The third is a set of jazz classics, including “Summertime” by Gershwin, "Scrapple from the Apple" by Charlie Parker, and "Caravan" by Duke Ellington.
