New Financing for Theater and TV in New York City
NEW YORK - Nov. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The New Financing for Theater and TV event at the historic Players Club in New York’s Gramercy Park South on 5 November (Tuesday) is a sequel to the runaway hit last 17 September in the same venue. Angela Lansbury, Jack Lemmon and Jimmy Fallon are only some of Players Club's distinguished members.

Discussions will delve deeper into the JOBS (Jumpstart Our Business Startups) Act with focus on crowdfunding and how it can provide new access to financing for the entertainment industry. This event is expected to be as vibrant as the first. Expect prominent members of the historic Players Club to join the event.

David Drake, founder and chairman of The Soho Loft says, “Finally, we’re seeing some real change and action on the JOBS Act that will impact even the entertainment scene.”

William Scheckel, Director of TreveriMarket which won the Europe 4 Startups Competition last year, agrees with his co-organizer, “Fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship and daring is best exemplified in the arts and culture where creativity seeks the expression that the society needs in order for it to flourish. Financing new TV and theater productions through the easing of the new laws is a stellar opportunity that the entertainment industry should not miss out on.”

The Soho Loft and TreveriMarket organized and hosted this series of discussions so entertainment industry thought leaders and finance leaders can explore together this monumental shift in financing. The original intent of the JOBS Act is designed to create inroads in capital formation not just for the entertainment industry but for many entrepreneurial and innovative ventures.

On 5 November, David Drake will once again jumpstart the discussions. David Weild, former Vice Chair of Nasdaq,  and TreveriMarket’s William Scheckel, will both deliver the keynote messages.

The panel on crowdfunding includes thought leaders like Enzo Villani of Sustain PR, who is also a former corporate strategist for Nasdaq. He will be joined by Jouko Ahvenainen, co-founder and chairman of  Crowd Valley and the Grow VC Group. Liron Artzi, President of LA Creations, completes the line-up.

On September 17 the panel topics included  “Regulation A” and “Alternative financing methods for digital media outlets”. Ken Davenport, producer of the award-winning play “GodSpell”, shared how he was able to raise $5 Million for his production using the provisions in Regulation A.

One of the participants of the September event, Bob Crothers of West Ninth Productions, said: “This was a fantastic evening. The presentations and panels suggest a real opportunity for equity  crowdfunding as an alternative  funding initiative for theater producers. I look forward to following up with several of the financial presenters.”

September 23 marked a historic change when part of the 80-year-old Securities Act of 1933 was finally and legally replaced with the Title II of the JOBS (Jumpstart Our Business Startups) Act that was signed into law last April 5, 2012. The new law now permits general solicitation which would allow advertising of private offerings to the public to attract more investors. The impact of this on the entertainment industry is huge. Firms and companies are now able to let the general public know that they can now use the media to advertise to potential accredited investors for their films, TV and Broadway shows. This is now in step with the technological developments in media such as the Internet and TV that were not available 80 years before. On October 23, SEC submitted the proposed rules on Title III of the JOBS Act or the Crowdfunding Bill, for a 90-day public commenting on the 585-page tome.
