This world-class event reaches out to aspiring Black lawyers across the country to provide an unparalleled game-changing opportunity for them to gain critical "insider" information, resources and contacts.
This year's schedule is jam-packed with everything any aspiring lawyer would need to know before deciding to pursue this challenging and highly-competitive path. There will be powerful and thought-provoking workshop sessions and panel discussions made up of expert law school administrators and accomplished and knowledgeable law students, law graduates, law professors, lawyers and judges from across the nation. Key information will be shared about the admissions process, the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), personal and diversity statements, financing a legal education and managing student loan debt, selecting a law school, preparing for and making the most of the law school experience, coping with racism and becoming a contributing leader in law school, and different career options and paths once armed with a law degree. There will also be a special session specifically for high school students sharing with them what they can start doing right now to prepare for law school success. Several dynamic top attorneys will serve as featured keynote speakers and share words of wisdom, encouragement and their own personal journeys to lawyerhood. They include Dr. Walter L. Sutton, Esq., MBA, Associate General Counsel, Legal Administration and External Relations, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. In addition to hearing from these amazing lawyers, participants will have the opportunity to experience a mock law school class taught by actual law professors, participate in the signature advice clinic and practical assistance session, take a mock diagnostic Law School Admission Test (LSAT) exam, take part in an LSAT test-taking strategies session, make connections during the networking reception and social mixer, and meet representatives from over 100 law schools at the Law School Recruitment Fair. Attendees will be able to attend The Legacy Builders Awards Banquet where five extraordinary Black attorneys will be honored including Kim M. Finally, the conference will close with its most highly-anticipated event – the Aspiring Lawyers Pinning Ceremony. During this time, all aspiring lawyers must take a special public pledge. Thereafter, all current lawyers will stand in solidarity and show their confidence in the next generation of Black lawyers by pinning them and presenting them with special keepsake gifts. For many, they find this end to the conference to be life-changing in that the message is that we come from where you come from, we look like you, we had to overcome tremendous obstacles and although the road was extremely tough, we did it. Therefore, we sincerely believe in you and we represent the fact that it can be done and we know you can do it too. All pre-law registrants will receive the official souvenir program guide, a free subscription to BLACK PRE-LAW magazine, and complimentary access to done-for-you resources and professional success skills online and tele-seminars year round, as well as law school admission and preparation success e-books including The African American Pre-Law School Advice Guide, Profiles & Essays of Successful African American Law School Applicants, The African American Law School Survival Guide and Conquering the Bar Exam. No other comprehensive national pre-law conference like this exists that offers all that this one does - period. With only 7% of law students and 5% of all lawyers being African American, the need for more representation in law schools and in the legal profession remains great. Most importantly, admission to this groundbreaking "must attend" event is completely free of charge and open to the public. High school students, college students and graduates, working professionals, career changers, multicultural, career and pre-law advisors, as well as supporters and parents are all encouraged to take advantage of the amazing benefits this world-class event offers.
