Kindergarteners Send Teddy Bear Hugs to Comfort Kids in an Emergency

TORRANCE, Calif. - Nov. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Lights, sirens, fire and smoke, these things combined can create a very frightening situation for a child. The kindergarten classes at St. Catherine Laboure’ School learned this very lesson on a trip to the Torrance Fire Station last year.

Fire fighters understand that when they respond to a call they may encounter an anxious and frightened child. The fire fighters explained to the students, that when children can hug a teddy bear, it helps them not be so afraid. For this reason, the fire fighters like keep a few stuffed animals aboard their trucks so when they respond to a call, they can give a bear to children who are scared.

Our students were very touched by this and as part of a service project, created “Operation Hug a Bear”. This year’s kindergarten class will hand deliver donated teddy bears to the fire station. The students at St. Catherine Laboure’ School want to give back to their community and provide comfort and aid to other children.
