Follow on Google News | Survey Finds That Concern About Data Privacy May Create Barriers to Mobile AdvertisingSpecifically, Americans are highly concerned that their personal information entered into a mobile device will be compromised and used to steal money (36%) or that their kids can be targeted in inappropriate ways (30%). Still, more than a quarter of Americans simply believe that people, companies and mobile applications should not have access to their personal information. Mobile device users are not just worried about their financial transactions being compromised (70% concerned), but also emails (43%), phone calls (31%), and location information (34%). So what are they doing to protect themselves? They are taking action by… · Deciding not to download apps after reading their privacy statements · Changing settings on their mobile devices to protect themselves from unknowingly providing personal information · Deleting apps that were collecting and using too much personal information · Installing tools that blocks ads, stop tracking information from being collected or stop 3rd parties from collecting information · Paying for an identity protection service. These responsive behaviors present possible barriers to those companies selling apps or advertising or selling any products or services on mobile devices. However, for many Americans, the taking of their data or personal identity information is a foregone conclusion. About 2 in 10 believe that at least some theft or intrusion of their data or identity is going to or has already happened regardless of security or preventive measures they have taken, and about one in 10 are concerned about their data privacy but feel powerless to do anything about.
