Follow on Google News | Chevrolet is Designing a Bi-Fuel Impala for the US MarketBuilt to run on both gasoline and natural gas, the 2015 Bi-Fuel Impala should be coming to Cox Chevrolet next year.
By: Cox Chevrolet While readers are surely familiar with the Impala—one of the most distinctive vehicles on the road today—the concept of bi-fuel surely needs a bit of explaining. A bi-fuel engine is capable of running on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or gasoline. Because natural gas is generally cleaner burning and costs less, the Impala will use it as fuel first before switching over to gasoline if necessary. The estimated range of the combined fuel tanks on the bi-fuel Impala is about 500 miles. Drivers that are looking to have control over which fuel will be used, however, will be able to get that too. With just the push of a button, the Impala can switch from running on natural gas to running on gasoline. CNG vehicles have, on average, a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over their gasoline-powered counterparts. Expected to go on sale in the summer of 2014, the bi-fuel Impala will join Chevy's other CNG-friendly vehicles: the bi-fuel Silverado and CNG Express Cargo Van. Alongside the Volt, Cruze Turbo Diesel, and Spark EV, this makes for a pretty impressive selection of alternative fuel options.
