Conejo Valley YMCA's 9th Annual "Turkey Day Dash"

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Oct. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF.--The Conejo Valley YMCA is hosting its 9th Annual Turkey Day Dash on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28. The 5K run/walk and 1K family fun run/walk will be held at California Lutheran University (60 West Olsen Rd., Thousand Oaks). The races are short enough so participants can make it home in time to prepare for a Thanksgiving gathering.

         More than 3,000 runners and walkers take part in the event each year, making it one of the largest run/walk events in the Conejo Valley. The 1K family fun run/walk starts at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K run/walk follows at 8:30 a.m. The race route begins and ends on the CLU campus. Proceeds go towards providing financial assistance for youth, families and seniors so they can take part in YMCA programs.

         “The Y holds this race to provide an event to our community that all fitness levels can enjoy. The race is about coming together, spending time with friends and family and being active,” says Erin Pierik, Conejo Y executive director.

         All ages and abilities are welcome to participate. Professional timing is provided for 5K runners. Registration through November 25 is $25 for individuals and $60 for families (immediate family only—up to six people). To register, go to www.sevymca.org/conejo

         Late registration ($30 for individuals and $70 for families) is available at Road Runner Sports (1714 Newbury Road, Newbury Park) on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 26 and 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All those who have registered online and in person can pick up their goody-bags, race t-shirts (while supplies last) and timing bibs on those days. Day-of-race registration is from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. ($40 for individuals and $90 for families).
