U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District to Receive SEBAC's 2012-2013 Award for Excellence

By: Small Environmental Business Action Coalition
WASHINGTON - Oct. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- The Small Environmental Business Action Coalition, Inc. and PilieroMazza PLLC are pleased to announce the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Awarding Small Business Prime Contracts.  This year’s recipient is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District.  SEBAC presents the award to recognize a federal agency’s demonstrated commitment to small environmental business through its awarding of small business prime contracts.  The award will be presented to Buffalo District Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Owen Beaudoin, during SEBAC’s Annual Networking Reception and Award Presentation on November 20, 2013.

SEBAC researched procurement data specific to NAICS codes 562910 and 541620 among federal agencies and evaluated the data based on the number and quality of agency procurements and the agency’s overall commitment to small businesses to determine the recipient of the Award for Excellence. This evaluation and award is based on a pre-established set of criteria which includes three key components:

•    The agency’s ability to meet or exceed projected goals for fiscal year;
•    The agency’s quality and quantity of small business awards; and
•    The agency’s progress towards improvement in attaining goals (percentage increase and/or proven improvement)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District was selected to receive this award as a result of its strong support of small environmental businesses as demonstrated by the awarding of nearly 100 per cent of its contracting dollars to small businesses.  During fiscal year 2012, it awarded $1, 213, 798,159 to small businesses in 29 contracts within NAICS codes 562910 and 541620.  In addition, the contract execution practices at the Buffalo District office are commendable.  The contracting officers and contracting officer representatives truly attempt to “partner” with their contractors and are committed to fair and reasonable negotiations of original contracts and changes.

SEBAC was formed to act as a unifying voice for addressing issues that face small environmental businesses nationwide. Membership is open to any small business that is primarily engaged in the environmental industry and has 500 or fewer employees.  Member companies perform environmental investigations, design, engineering, remediation, operations and maintenance, and ordnance and explosives work with federal agencies.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2013, SEBAC President, Dennis D. Morgan, II and PilieroMazza Managing Partner, Pam Mazza, will present the award during SEBAC's Networking Reception and Award Presentation at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri.  This is the same venue as the SAME Small Business Conference for DOD Engineering, Construction and Environmental Programs.

Smith Manus Surety Bonds, an agency specializing in environmental, construction, and specialty bonds for all industries, is a co-sponsor of the Networking Reception.

The event is open to SEBAC members, invited guests and small environmental businesses interested in learning more about SEBAC.
