Oct. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Richard Portes, Professor of Economics, London Business School and Founder and President of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), will receive the honorary degree from top French university Paris-Dauphine on Thursday 10 October

Professor Portes says:  “I am delighted at this recognition of my research and contribution to academic economics in Europe and very pleased that it comes from Paris-Dauphine, with its particularly strong reputation in finance and economics. It is an inspiration for my current and future work in international macroeconomics and finance and with the Centre for Economic Policy Research. I have been closely involved with economic research and postgraduate teaching in France since 1977, so that too makes this a special occasion.”

The degree will be conferred at a ceremony in the university’s Raymond Aron lecture hall, where Professor Portes will be speak on whether there really is a global shortage of safe assets, which many economists and market participants believe is a source of asset price bubbles and macroeconomic and financial instability.

Professor Portes is also an elected Fellow of the British Academy and the Econometric Society. He holds honorary doctorates from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and London Metropolitan University, and he was decorated as Commander of the British Empire in 2003.
