PRLog -- High atop Mt. Ashland is the challenge of many a seasoned hiker. This challenge is known as the Pacific Crest Trail.The Pacific Crest Trail stretches from the Mexican border, meandering through the treacherous terrain of the California Sierra Nevada mountains (where the Donner party became stranded) into the rugged Siskiyou and Cascade mountain ranges of Oregon, into Washington and to Canada.Whereas the Pacific Crest Trail spans 2,650 miles, there are not many easy entrance or exit points. Ashland OR has one of the easiest and most accessible entrance/exits to the trail. It exists on top of Mt. Ashland, which is a part of the Siskiyou mountains and home to its ski resort. The trek from its entrance point quickly ascends through the soft earth meandering trail into thick forest. This forest is home to black bear, timber rattler, bob cat, mountain lion, raccoon, and an assortment of other native creatures.Cheryl Strayed's New York Times best-selling book, "Wild: Lost and Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" chronicles Strayed's 1100 mile transformative solo journey on the trail, grieving the loss of both her mother and marriage. One of Strayed's stops along the way was Ashland OR, where she exits the trail and arrives in a town mourning the death of Grateful Dead member, Jerry Garcia.Award-
winning actress, Reese Witherspoon, was captivated by Strayed's story and decided to not only produce the film, but also to take on playing Strayed's character as well.On October 23, 2013, Witherspoon and her film crew along with Strayed, converged on downtown Ashland OR, joined by approximately 100 locally hired movie extras for filming scenes from "Wild.""Wild"
