Giardia and Giardiasis Discussed in New Online Video

PEORIA, Ariz. - Oct. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate people about issues that may impact their health.  Their latest educational video discusses Giardia and giardiasis.

Giardia is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal illness known as giardiasis.  Giardia can be found on surfaces or in soil, food or water that has been contaminated with feces from infected humans or animals.

Giardia cysts are protected by an outer shell that allows them to survive outside of the body for long periods of time, sometimes weeks or months, and makes them tolerant to chlorine disinfection.

“Symptoms of illness normally begin around 1 to 3 weeks after becoming infected,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.     “In most healthy people, symptoms of the illness may last 2 to 6 weeks, but occasionally symptoms last longer.  Although the Giardia parasite can infect all people, infants and pregnant women may be more likely to experience severe dehydration from the diarrhea caused by the organism. We hope this new video helps to shed some light on this organism.”
