The Award, sponsored by Arc Poetry Magazine (arcpoetry.ca) “I am absolutely thrilled and very happy for Nina, who truly deserves to receive such a distinguished award,” says publisher Maureen Whyte. “Elseworlds is a beautiful collection of thoughtful and engaging poems by an accomplished poet. It’s wonderful news for Nina and for Seraphim Editions.” This collection of poems explores everyday moments through conversation, story and daydream, often with humour. The poems invite readers to journey with the poet into other dimensions. Themes range from coming to terms with failed relationships to reflections on the presence of departed loved ones to the ever-enticing desire to escape into another world altogether. “This is a wonderful surprise and I’m truly honoured to be the 2013 Archibald Lampman Award recipient,” Berkhout says. “Thank you to Arc Poetry Magazine for sponsoring and administering the Award, and to Seraphim Editions for its faith in my poetry.” Berkhout adds that this collection differs from her previous published work. “These poems emerged on their own, over the span of about two years. They include topics that currently interest me because I’m at that time in life where life and death are intersecting – failed relationships, loss of family members, reflections on childhood. My hope is that readers will relate to them and enjoy the experience of reading them.” About the Author Nina Berkhout is the author of four previous poetry collections, including Arrivals and Departures (Buschek Books, 2010) which was a finalist for the 2011 Archibald Lampman Award. She holds a degree in Classical Studies from the University of Calgary and a Masters in Museum Studies from the University of Toronto.
