CHELSEA, Quebec - Oct. 24, 2013 - PRLog -- The invention of movable type launched the printing revolution and the blossoming of a new art form. Today e-books are once again transforming the way people read. Does this spell the end of the traditional book as we know it or can the Artist’s Book evolve into the 21st century?

The Chelsea Center for Arts, Culture, and Heritageposed this question to both visual arts students from Heritage College and to established professional artists. The result is a unique group exhibit entitled The Artist’s Book NOW - An Alternative Destiny of the Printed Book. Given that our relationship with the written word is changing, it is important to explore how different generations interpret the idea of reading and how they foresee the book as an object transforming itself into the future. In addition to realizing their artistic visions, students experienced a taste of the formal gallery submission process plus the chance to showcase their work in an art gallery, all part of the Chelsea Center for Arts, Culture, and Heritage’s mandate to promote an interest in the arts among young people.

The exhibit also includes an interactive installation created by the local community entitled I am Chelsea / Chelsea c’est moi whose aim was to raise participants’ awareness of the arts, culture, and heritage. Families and individuals of all ages were involved in the creative process using letters, words, sentences, and drawings relating to their community.

The setting for the exhibit is a renovated church rectory transformed into a spacious light-filled gallery. This Book event was made possible through the generous support of the Loisir Sport Outaouais,  Programme d’aide au développement de la jeune relève amateur en loisir culturel dans l’Outaouais, and Canada Post Community Foundation.
