"The feedback has been increadible. So many have told us how they have enjoyed the book while learning so much about BRCA. At first, they planned on giving their copy to their physician. Now, they are keeping it and are getting a second copy for their doctor!"- Dr. Herman

This book, originally targeted to healthcare professionals, shares the personal journeys and experiences of patients who have been touched by the BRCA mutation, and who have had to make the difficult decisions that this type of a diagnosis brings. However, when an editor, Michelle Devon, read the original manuscript for the book, she had this to say about it, “I think it has a wide market appeal… the target audience is much larger than just healthcare professionals. Women in general, men who love women, any woman who might be at risk, they can all benefit from reading LETTERS TO DOCTORS.”

As such, the LETTERS TO DOCTORS manuscript was reworked to provide compelling, intimate information about the experiences of those facing testing, life-changing decisions, risk-reducing surgeries, and lifesaving treatments, in a personal and surprisingly honest, revealing way.

Teri Smieja is a mother, a wife, and a BRCA-positive Previvor who has become a strong voice in the patient-advocacy arena for BRCA testing. She is the founder of the BRCA Sisterhood, a thriving online patient-advocacy group, and has been an active BRCA blogger.

Dr. Herman is an obstetrician/gynecologist who cares for women and families with the BRCA mutations. He advocates awareness, education and testing for these potentially deadly hereditary cancers, with the goal of preventing cancer and saving lives.

Together, Dr. Herman and Teri have reached out to the BRCA community, asking them what they would have liked from their doctors and to share their experiences and knowledge about the process of being tested, diagnosed, making decisions with their healthcare professionals as a team, and choosing treatment. These co-authors took poignant, personal information and backed it up with facts, statistics, information, and resources for patients and healthcare professionals alike, and put it in one book for all to learn from and share understanding.

LETTERS TO DOCTORS is published by Teri’s Blip and RAD51 Publishing, and is available in hard copy from retailers such as Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, and Amazon.com, as well as digital versions for Kindle, Nook, and other electronic readers through various online retailers. Prices will vary depending on retailer, with the suggested retail price for the print edition as $14.95 and the digital version as $7.99.
