Fort Lauderdale Dentist Dr Patty Working at Mission Trip to Dominican Republic The mission trip was from August 28 to September 1 and consisted of roughly 100 dentists, most from the United States, some from elsewhere in the world including as far away as Australia. Most of the patients have little to no access to dental care in "The DR." Many arrived in the early hours of the morning at the clinic and waited many hours to receive procedures. Dr. Patty performed a number of Dental Implant procedures and Sinus Lifts, also called a sinus augmentation, a surgery that adds bone to the upper jaw. This bone tissue is added between the maxillary sinuses and the jaw. To do this, the sinus membrane needs to be moved upward and therefore lifted. The procedure is done in cases where there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw for dental implants to be placed. This can happen when people have lost their back teeth that can cause bone loss over time or if bone was lost due to periodontal disease. The procedure is also needed when the maxillary sinus may be too close to the upper jaw for implants to be placed.
